I'm really enjoying the recruitment of more New Jersey players. It's good to see a largely untapped market being combed out.

We should also score more points than they do.

I played a golf tournament in WV a few years ago, and of course had all my VT clubhead covers on my clubs. A random man goes out of his way to walk up to me and says "Got a lotta nerve comin up here with those things" and then walked away. I didn't expect that from what was just an ordinary 4 man best ball golf tournament.

Ahaha, YES - I am so happy someone said this. I loved that game!

Speaking of baseball games for the NES, I also played a lot of Baseball Stars. The first game that I knew of where you could create your team, play seasons and hire/fire/trade players:

I find it ironic that people talk about us having a "rivalry" with Pitt when you look at WVU and Pitt's rivalry. The whole thing about "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" doesn't really apply in football. But the Pitt fanbase is hated by the WVU fanbase. I think it says something when WVU fans talk about how terrible Pitt fans are. To them, they are "Eat Shit Pitt" and after being their last year for the game, I see why. Between the lame-ass people telling our fans to sit down so they can watch the game and the assholes who mock anyone and everyone wearing the opposing team's colors, including children, there's nothing good about going to a game there. I'll pass on Pitt as our "rival."

I drove through Morgantown once. My gas light came on. I kept going to the next town.

True enough... but the students still completely hate FSU. And everyone else is just the opponent.

But yeah, I'd buy the argument that they are definitely far from indicative of the general fan base, especially since they haven't had much of one these last few seasons.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Sid Meier's Civilization II yet. My God that was addictive. My parents went out of town for a long weekend and I SLEPT in the computer chair, getting up only to pee and get food (to eat in front of the computer, naturally). The addictiveness of Sim City but on a GRAND scale. I can't play it or the sequels anymore for fear of child neglect.

Oh, and Goldeneye is the greatest dorm room game in the history of anything ever. And anyone who has gotten into FIFA can attest to it's versatility attributing to addictiveness. Want to play online? Boom, 15 minute games. Want to create a player and follow him for years? Start now and in two months, holy shit it's 2018 and your player is old. Want to manage a team from the 4th English division to European Champions? It can MAKE THAT HAPPEN, all in 15 minute chunks.

Agree on all except the McCarron part...i don't think he is fabulous but he is definitely a very good QB. Our best chance at winning is to force him to beat us, but I think he is capable of doing so

Just checking this thread for the first time... I'm disappointed I had to scroll this far to see Super Mario 3 (also my fav game of all time)

I haven't played Oregon Trail in probably 15 years. I might need to go find a flash remake somewhere, I'm sure someone's done it.

As had been said above, you can't define a rivalry, it has to develop naturally. Historically, previous games have to have meant something or the relation of the fan bases has to have some deep seated distinctions. I mean, Kansas-Missouri is a big deal, but not really for many on-field reasons, those people used to fucking shoot each other back in the day.

UVA will always be our cultural rival, because they are infested with douchery and it's an in state thing. That's why even after 9 straight wins, it's still sweet. And it's why I regularly remind my UVA coworkers that there are 4th graders ALL OVER THE WORLD that have never seen UVA beat us IN THEIR LIVES. To the guy above who said they are our in-state brethren; my dad says the same thing and I respectfully say that you are as wrong as can be. The only reason I would root for UVA to be good is to boost our strength of schedule and the hopes that we can take a conference/division crown away from them (ahem, 38-0).

I consider WVU a rival as well, but it's fading because of the lack of games. They were also a cultural/proximity rival, although in this case it's their complete lack of class that distinguishes them from us (and also caused the games to end). So I support Beamer in suspending the series; if we can play a neutral site game, I think that's safest. I think they should also ban fans that do dumb shit like throw batteries and urine like they do in England for soccer, but that requires the cousins to self-police. I will never set foot in Morgantown again, NOT EVEN FOR THE MONORAIL.

Miami is a rival because the game has had national implications over the years (well, many years ago) and there have been some absolute CLASSICS. The two best games I've ever been to are the Nebraska (Tyrod did it, Mikey!) and the Sandman game, the latter of which meant more because of the opponent. Someone said it earlier; winning those Miami games means more than winning other games, it almost feels like a validation, even if Miami is terrible.

I can't consider GT a rival, at least not yet. Yeah, the games frequently decide the Coastal, but I only hate Paul Johnson's douchiness. I feel like Robert the Bruce in Braveheart "My hate...will die...with you." If he leaves and I can find another reason to hate GT, then ok, now we're in business. Until then, they are just a gimmick offense with a prick of a head coach.

As for Pitt (oh yeah, that was the whole point of this), they aren't our rivals. They have been waxing us for a while now...just looked it up and we haven't beaten them since MICHAEL Vick was still around, and that was a close win followed next year by an absolute drubbing even worse than last year. We need to beat them (for a change) and have some pretty big stakes dependent on the outcomes. Or, I guess just a lot of Mark May homerism could drive me to hate them, I guess...

They really hit the big points. Winning the turnover battle is going to be the biggest one. We have to force them to make mistakes and then we HAVE to capitalize on them. We also need to limit our mistakes. Let's be honest, Logan will throw an interception. But we can't be the only ones making the mistakes. Other priorities are:

Limit the productivity of their running game. Gotta keep Yeldon and Henry and any other backs from getting into a rhythm and gashing us for big gains. Our front 7 is solid enough to make this possible, but our backups need to be on their game too. There needs to be a solid front on every down.

Corners and Safeties cannot cheat too much to play the run. McCarron is a game manager, but he is not a good quarterback. Yeldon and Amari Cooper make McCarron look good and can move well in space. I expect them to line Cooper up with whoever is filling in for Exum assuming he isn't playing or on Fuller if Exum is back at 100%. It's highly unlikely that he is back at 100%, but he could be back and seeing some playing time.

We have to score early and score often. We need to rattle Bama before they rattle us. If we get down 14-0, I will find it hard for our team to pull it together. If we score first and even hold them to a field goal on their first attempt, it will set the tone. We need to get under their skin because that's when they will start making mistakes.

Let's be honest, much like Alabama, Texas, USC, OSU, FSU, and Michigan, most of the fans of Miami were not ever students there. They hopped on the bandwagon when the swag was at the U. The feelings of their student body towards other teams is not indicative of the feelings of the fanbase that give them their reputation.

This is what kept us in the game against them in 2009. Forcing FGs when they were in the Red Zone.

I was sitting on the goal line in the East stands, with a decent view of it. We all exploded too, since it looked like such a catchable ball there wasn't any way he dropped it... and then we saw it bounce away.

And also, I can tell you that it is a relatively one-sided rivalry, as in we consider them our rivals but they couldn't care less about us, or at least the current students don't. My girlfriend just graduated from there a year ago.

If we are going to modernize our jerseys, I want that font on them. I was never a fan of that weird font that we used in 2007-2010

Danny Coale didn't know the right name or know what the pylons were. Yet I believe he is still open.
