we did play GT in the first game -- beat their ass and move on .. we have two more important games on the schedule, fsu and clemson. I'd like to play both of them closer to the end of the season .. maybe the fsu game at home on thursday, then a long 10 days before a powder-puff home game (bc??) .. then the clemson game .. that would be optimal but doubt it works out like that .. guess we'll find out soon enough.

I actually can see it from CPJ's perspective: why play the biggest ACC game on the slate as the first game, let alone conference game, of the season? If you lose this game, which has historically become the Division Championship Game, in week one, you are playing from behind the entire season and in all likelihood will end up losing the division (not saying we are going to win out but odds are GT will lose another game or two in ACC play down the road just as I see Va Tech losing at least once). I really don't think he gives a damn about the FCS team the next week (though the media is once again playing up our loss to JMU a few years back after the Boise State loss- nicely done Heather Dinich, you feel smart don't you?) just the fact that the biggest ACC game is week one. If I were CPJ or Al Groh I would be petitioning the Conference to have this game moved back to October again, and this time not allow us to have our Bye the prior week or even switch it up with the Cincinnati game (though since tickets have gone on sale I don't think that will happen for legal reasons). I know people are ragging on him but I understand his frustration- he has never wanted to take the Jim Weaver approach to scheduling and I don't necessarily blame him.

Honestly this should've been done years ago, particularly when ESPN, ESPN 2, and ABC all started to televise Spring Games. As many have pointed out this is a great way to recruit particularly if the potential player cannot make it to the game and also gives the program huge exposure. Look at a list of who broadcasts their Spring Games: Florida, Alabama, LSU, Penn State, etc. In fact, a majority of what people would call the "elite" programs participate. It will be nice because though I really want to get back to Blacksburg in the Spring (one of the most beautiful places in the world during the Spring) and get back to tailgating, there is no pressure to do so since I can now crack open a few cold ones and watch from my PC.

Somebody put a bug in the Frankenator's ear about how much exposure a spring game can get by being broadcast. Great move!

yeah .. we think hokie fans are frustrated .. imagine being a texas fan -- YEARS of top 5 high school talent equates to 1 natty for mack .. but they love him -- that's for sure

Been waiting for "VPI " logo for years.. That could be a traditional and bad-ass change of pace uniform and helmet.

I agree 100%. I love the current "throwback" jerseys we wear now; however, I hope they are either changed soon or we really slam the "tradition" being established at Tech with these jerseys as the prime visual exemplar. Personally I was always a fan of the 2004-2007 jerseys: not too "futuristic" but also not bland a la Michigan's home jersey, Penn State, or Alabama. Nothing screams creativity like flat colors and numbers. Please don't push the tradition factor in- I get it, they want to keep the past alive. Yawn.

This current makeup will probably only stay for two more years- ever since VT re-signed with Nike in 2004 new jerseys come out once every three to four years depending on fan purchases and general opinions of all pertinent parties: coaches, players, recruits, and fans.

In terms of the helmet, I like what we have now and the variants of it personally. Would like to see the matte black helmets make a return at some point for a neutral site game or even the old VT helmet with the Orange Commonwealth and Maroon Tech inscribed. Was a big fan of that helmet in old photos. A fighting gobbler helmet would be good for one game I think- have it with the matte black or even white and with a black out version of the current jersey we have now or with whatever new horrific design Nike will come up with next- the nuclear bomb of chicago maroon and burnt orange.

Yea it's true, when he was at VT, he was a hot-headed athlete that believed he walked on water and didn't need to work hard. I also remember him driving his SLK with 20s around campus. But, it's not easy when you're brother is making millions and obviously has "shady" people all around him. But, I'm sure Michael's incident deeply affected Marcus as well and I hope Marcus made a similar effort to become a better person. But I agree, Marcus, at that time, in that situation, was not a leader of a team and did not deserve to be quarterback. I just don't think 20 year old in his situation deserves harsh judgement. I'm pretty sure most young men in his situation would have behaved in a similar matter.

Last night's game made me think of a first date. The night was fun with a lot of highs and lows. We were on her front porch, holding hands and looking for the opportunity to get that first kiss. I leaned toward her.....and the porch light went on and her dad came out and took her in the house. I still don't know what happened. Still waiting for that first kiss and still waiting on the Hokies to shoot the ball and beat UVA again. I could have accepted a missed shot, but no shot at all. What was the play they were running? The Harlem Globetrotter weave? Were we trying to run out the clock?.........also, who is suppose to question the three point shot that UVA made from 30 feet after the shot clock ran out? Coaches or referees? Can the coach ask to check the replay? The announcers on TV agreed that the shot should not have counted since it had not left his hand. Three point shot and we lose by two.

marcus wasn't good enough to carry this team, especially with a bad OL. he had happy feet when the 3 teams that produced a pass rush in '05 they got to him. the ol was a lot worse in 06 and he wasn't tough mentally. while athletic, he wasn't a natural scrambler or runner like mike.

the dl of florida would have ate the hokie's ol lunch that year. ohio state had a far superior ol and troy smith couldn't breath without 2 future nfl players in his grill.

i love foster and our defense of the year's but let's not pretend, part of the lofty rankings wasn't due to the teams on the schedule.

vt hasn't proven they can beat the big boys for me to even think 06 nc would be a possibility. marcus was no vince young, who all but carried sorry mack brown to what will be his only national championship.

something behind the transfer. he was positioned well to be 2nd team cb.

i want the dirt on it!

Vick Junior was a twat and if he hadn't messed up in the offseason he would have messed up *during* the season and fucked us over that much harder.

a $300k buyout per year. very affordable next year if the wheels don't get put back on.

however, i don't weaver to be the man to make the next hire. he is good with beans, but hiring coaches or almost letting them go (beamer) isn't his best strength.

minnesota is a long way from bburg. i could be wrong but he was probably homesick and decided to get closer to home.

good luck to him

spring game so much fun. a glorified scrimmage sure but like Jawo said, who can beat Bburg on a warm (hopefully) April afternoon? i'm interested in seeing Holmes and Coleman in action.

i will never forget rmfw's first carry in 09(?)

i wonder, will Logan have the yellow jersey on?

I have a Worhsam field rug at home. Every time I walk across it I say to myself Touchdown Tech.
