I didnt see a game thread so figured I would start one
The Men's Team
No brooms this cycle, as the team battled hard for the Game 4 win over Notre Dame in this tetralogy. It was a miserable 1-3 against the aforementioned Fighting Irish, Duke, NC State, and Virginia. Where is Pitt and UNC you might ask? Well those games were postponed to later in the season. We've reached the halfway point in the season, so in addition to the usual stats, we're gonna have some visualizations
Scoring
Aluma has taken over, leading the team with 20.5 ppg over this window, followed by Mutts (13 ppg), Murphy (11 ppg), Alleyne (9.25 ppg), and Cattoor (7.5). The rest of the team, as a whole, averaged 3.5 ppg over this 4 game window.
The Ladies are in Charlottesville tonight at 7 PM. The game is on ACC Network Extra(otherwise known as watch ESPN). UVA is now 3-13 and 0-6 in the ACC. We only beat them by 3 on Jan 18; but we are better than that and they are not that good. This should be a win, if the Ladies come to play. We can't afford for Sheppard, Amoore and KIng to all have an off night; but if 2 of the the three play well and Kitley is her normal self, we should do well.
The Ladies host LOLUVA today at 5 PM in Cassell. The game is on ACC Network. UVA is 3 and 10 and 0 and 3 in the ACC. However, they have played NC State twice and Ga Tech once in ACC play. Busy time for me again. All I have time for is posting the tables.
WE WON AN ACC GAME!!!!
The Hokies host Notre Dame in Cassell Coliseum today at 6 PM. The Hokies are favored by 6.5 with the over/under at 132. Notre Dame(10-5, 4-1) is on a 6 game winning streak and the Hokies(8-7, 0-4) are on a 3 game losing streak.
When I first moved to the Pittsburgh, the Pirates play by play announcer was Bob "The Gunner" Prince. One of his theories involved "Hidden Vigorish". His theory was that no streak lasts forever; so the longer a streak, the more likelihood that the next game would end the streak. Let's hope "Hidden Vigorish" favors the Hokies tonight.
SCHEDULE
Mods delete if I simply overlooked an existing one...anyone watching?
The Lady Hokies play at #19 UNC today at 6PM. The game is on the ACC Network as the last game in a fourple header. Kitley could be a big factor in this game; she will be the tallest player on the court by 3 to 5 inches all day.
#: 25 Deja Kelly ,So., G, 5'8 MPG 35.4, PPG 20.8, RPG 4, APG 2.8, TO: 0.8
#: 1 Alyssa Ustby ,So., G, 6'1 MPG 30.6, PPG 10.3, RPG 8.8, APG 2.5, TO: 0
#: 10 Eva Hodgson ,R-Jr., G, 5'9 MPG 26.2, PPG 10.3, RPG 1.8, APG 2, TO: 0.3
The Hokies play NC State today at 7 PM in Cassell Coliseum. The game is on the ACC Network. NC State is 7-7 and 0-3 in ACC play with losses at home to Louisville and FSU and at Miami.
SCHEDULE
Out of Conference:
In Conference:
The Hokies will match up well with NC State. The Wolfpack does have 6'11" Dowuona, who plays 26 min/game; but he is prone to foul trouble having fouled out of 4 games overall and 2 of the 3 ACC games.
Roster
The Ladies play today at 4PM at Wake Forest. The game is part of a fourple header on the ACC Network. Wake is 11-2 with losses to Nebraska and #16 Georgia Tech.
SCHEDULE
ROSTER
Kitley will be the tallest player on the floor by 3 or 4 inches depending on whether 6'3" Malaya Cowles is on the floor(she only plays about 13 min/game).
#: 24 Spear, Jewel ,So., Guard, 5'10 MPG 33.4, PPG 21.3, RPG 4, APG 2.2, TO: 1
The Ladies play No. 15/22 Duke at Cassell tonight at 7 PM. The game is on the ACC Network. All you get tonight is tables. Too much happening in my life right now.

The Men's Team
This team is starting to damage my calm. Yes, I predicted a record anywhere from 2-2 to 4-0 over this four game set, but I was wrong in from where those losses would come.
Scoring
The scoring free-fall from volumes 2 to 3 have levelled off at 70.75 ppg for the team. I don't know how, but Aluma still leads the way in scoring with 16.25 - gotta be the quietest 15+ ppg in the country, and he's getting better. Also averaging double figures was Cattoor at 10.5 and Murphy at 10ppg. Major scoring contributors include Mutts (8.25), Alleyne (7.75), Maddox (6.75). Pedulla (4.5) and N'Guessan (4.25) also factored in at a bucket a half over the window.
The Hokies play #2 Duke at Cameron Indoor tonight at 9 PM. The game is on ESPN2. Duke is favored by 9.5; the O/U is 138.5. Again, I'm going to steal Shelton Moss's write up about Duke.
Preview: Duke
The Blue Devils are off to a roaring start in Mike Krzyzewski's final season as a head basketball coach, owners of a 10-1 record with marquee wins over Kentucky and Gonzaga. No bigger challenge will Virginia Tech face than the one in Cameron Indoor Stadium this evening.
The Ladies play at Florida State tomorrow afternoon at 2 PM to start their ACC schedule. The game is on the ACC Network, which I can watch legally now that Comcast has the ACCN on Channel 1325. FSU is 6-4 with a win over Illinois and losses to BYU, Purdue, Florida and Houston.
FSU has the height to match up against the Hokies. Eight different players have started a game for the Seminoles and Mikayla Timson, who does not start, is the second leading scorer and is second in average min/game. Ten players average 14 or more min/game.
FAM!
The Hokies play St. Bonneventure today at 4 PM in Charlotte, NC. The game is on ESPN2.
I took the below from Shelton Moss's writeup. I'll add my usual tables and comments below; but there won't be many comments because Shelton pretty much covered it.
Preview: St. Bonaventure(Mods: Is it ok to do this? If not, I will take it out and just reference Shelton's article)
Busy day tomorrow; my older daughter's birthday and church. So you get a mash up of BBall info Sat night.
The Men play at Dayton at 2 PM on ESPN2. The Ladies host Radford in Cassell at 2 PM; the game is an ACCNx game. Both games could be feel good games for the Hokies.
The Men:
Dayton is 6-4 with wins at Miami and at Kansas; we have no common opponents.
Dayton has enough height to be a concern, if their big men are active.
