Associate Head Coach Chester Frazier to Illinois

This hurts.

Coach Frazier was with the Hokies for 2 seasons after a 7-year stint at Kansas State. Best of luck to Coach as he returns to his alma mater.

$75m Cassell Coliseum Renovation Plans Unveiled

I'm not gonna lie, this looks real good. The exterior of the building looks incredibly sharp

When it's filled with 10,000 fans cheering the Hokies to victory in the last seconds of a basketball game, Cassell Coliseum is an amazing sight. But when it's empty, the home of Virginia Tech basketball, volleyball, and wrestling shows its age. Built in the early 1960s, the coliseum is due for an extensive renovation.

Other Basketball: Transfer Portal

I figured it was worthwhile opening a discussion on portal transfers especially those inside the ACC.

To get us started, Jordan Goldwire from Duke announced he will be transferring. He led Duke in assists and steals. He joins Jaemyn Brakefield in transferring from Duke.

Just in this last week, UNC's Walker Kessler, Georgetown's Qudas Wahab, Florida's Noah Locke, Indiana's Kristian Lander, and West Virginia's Emmitt Matthews, just to name a few, have all entered their name into the transfer portal. All of these players either started or played a significant role on their team this past season.

Going to be another big moving off-season especially with Covid providing the extra year.

OT: Shaka Smart out at Texas, Will Coach Marquette

Smart, a Wisconsin native, has been the head coach at Texas for six seasons. The Longhorns have gone to three NCAA tournaments under Smart but have yet to win an NCAA tournament game with him at the helm. They won the Big 12 tournament earlier this month but were then upset by 14-seed Abilene Christian in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Wouldn't shock me if Brent hops ship again.

Women's Basketball today at 7PM

The Lady Hokies play #5/6 Baylor today at 7 PM in San Antonio. The game is on ESPN2. Pam Ward has the play by play; LaChina Robinson is the analyst. Baylor is the #2 seed in the Riverwalk bracket. The peoples bracket on ESPN picks Baylor 91% to VT 9% to win. Baylor is 25-2 overall with losses to current #15/16 Arkansas(78-83) on Dec 6; and to Iowa State(71-75) on Jan 16. They were scheduled to play UConn on Jan 7 and that game was cancelled. So they had a 2 week layoff from Jan 2 until they played Iowa State on Jan 16.

There's still Basketball. Women vs Marquette at Noon Sunday

The Lady Hokies also made it to the big dance this year for the first time since 2006. The 7th seed Hokies play the 10th seed Marquette Golden Eagles who finished second in the Big East to UConn. This is the fourth straight NCAA appearance for Marquette.

The game will be played in San Antonio, where all the tourney games will be played. Tip is at noon on Sunday on ESPNU with Brenda van Lengen doing the play by play and Sam Revich as analyst.

Marquette is 19-6 overall, 14-4 in the Big East. They were 6-3 at home and 11-2 away and 2-1 in the three games at neutral sites. Three of their losses were to UConn.

The Hokies will match up well against their roster.
