WBB vs Louisville

I am going to put this up early because I will be traveling back to Pennsylvania on Sat and Sun; and I won't have access or time to do this then. I hate to leave Florida; but it will be nice to be home again.

WBB vs Duke at Cassell

The Ladies play Duke tonight at 7PM at Cassell. The game is on ACCNx. Duke is currently receiving votes in the rankings(1 vote in each poll); but they beat #8/11 NC State at NC State their last game out. Duke has won 6 in a row, 8 of their last 9 and 10 of their last 12.

Duke is led by Haley Gorecki, who averages 19.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while playing 37.6 minutes. Slowing Gorecki down could be the key to this game; I assume Rivers will get that job and she will have her hands full. Duke regularly plays 8 players.

Hokie Hoops Statistical Notes: Volume 7

7/8ths of the way through the inaugural season of CMYBall and the dreaded freshman wall seems to be in full effect, with the Hokies going 1-3 in the recent four game stretch and 1 of the last 9. The Hokies were close to going 3 and 1 over this current stretch, but it just wasn't in the cards. So how are things looking right now?

MBB vs UVA at Cassell Coliseum

The Men play UVA tonight at 7PM at Cassell Coliseum. The game is on ESPN2. The Hokies are looking for revenge after getting their clocks cleaned at UVA on Jan 10. The 65-39 beating was one of the worst in Hokies history. Let's just say nothing worked. We shot poorly, rebounded poorly, defended poorly and just generally played bad basketball. I think we can do better tonight; but a win will be hard to achieve.

Virginia plays 7 players regularly in their high energy defense. In the last game the Hokies did a lot of standing around. Hopefully tonight, they will move the ball around more and cause the defense to have to work harder.

MBB Mid-Week Press Conference

Not sure if they've had these in the past, but first time I've seen them post a mid-week press conference. Obviously we haven't been playing our best, but looking forward to the game tomorrow and hoping we can steal this one!

WBB vs UVA at Cassell

The Ladies play UVA at Cassell today at 2PM. The game is on ACCNx. Not much time this morning. Have to walk the dog and get to church. UVA is 6-9 in ACC and 11-15 overall. They have not won on the road in the ACC this year. The Ladies beat them in Charlottesville. After falling behind by 13 in the first half, they came back to win 69-61.

UVA has a senior forward in Jablonski who can match up with Kitley. And the rest of the roster is close in size to the Hokies.

Stats for you to look at. I have to get moving.

MBB vs Duke at Duke

The Hokies play Duke at Cameron Indoor today at 8PM. The game is on ESPN2. We lost to Duke on Dec 6 by a score of 63-77. I don't see this game going much better. Duke is 22-4 and 12-3 in conference. They lost to Stephen F. Austin in overtime at home(?? how did that happen?), at Clemson(I don't understand that one either), to Louisville at home(at least this one is reasonable) and at NC State in their last game.

Duke will be taller than the Hokies; but they are as young as we are, starting 4 freshman and a sophomore. They have 10 players getting at least 12 min/game.

WBB vs Notre Dame

The Ladies play Notre Dame at Notre Dame at 8 PM tonight. The game is on Regional Sports Networks. Notre Dame is 5-9 in the ACC and 10-16 overall. They have not been a very good team this year; but I would always worry about a team coached by Muffet McGraw.

Their starting 5 are relatively tall and the other 3 who play regularly are also tall.

They have only shot 36% overall and 26% from three in ACC play. They average 3 made threes per game. They average 19 TO's and 14 Assists per game. They have been out rebounded by 6 rebounds per game. And are only averaging 61 points per game.

MBB vs Miami at home

The Hokies play Miami at Cassell tonight at 9PM. The game is on Regional Sports Networks. I have not started these threads the last few days because I was at my annual golf retreat; 16 guys meet in Orlando and play golf from sun up to sun down for 5 days. We get tired but we have fun.

Miami is 13-12 and 5-10 in the ACC. They are 4-4 at home and 1-6 on the road in the ACC. Their wins are at Clemson and home to Pitt, VT, BC and Wake. Their losses are to #5 Louisville, #2 Duke, at #13 Louisville, at NC State, at #8 Duke, at UNC, at Pitt, NC State and at #8 Florida State. Their record is not good; but they have played a very tough schedule. The Hokies are favored by 5 tonight.

WBB win vs GT in OT

Great 2nd half and OT for the ladies. Now with 8 wins in the ACC. Have a real shot to get to 10 wins in the conference. If they get by the next 3, 2/27 is a showdown against Duke, which might be a huge game for NCAA chances.

I had my doubts about Kenny Brooks going into the year but there has been clear improvement in the program this year. Team is pretty fun to watch.

WBB vs North Carolina

The Ladies play North Carolina at Chapel Hill today at 2PM. The game is on Regional Sports Networks. I can't figure out how to do tables with my IPad; so you don't get much today. UNC is 16-7 and 7-5. They are 12-2 and 5-1 at home.

Their conference losses are at VT, at NC State, at FSU, at Duke and to Louisville at home. They gave NC State their only loss in a game at Chapel Hill. And beat a bunch of lower tier for their other 6 wins.

Hokie Hoops Statistical Notes: Volume 6

Well we had high high hopes for the season
Didn't know too much but we really had a feelin'
Now we're coming down and we don't like what we're seein'
Oh, we had high high hopes

We are now 3/4* of a way through the season and things are not as pleasant as the end of the previous tetrarchy of games, going 0-for. How do we look statistically?

MBB vs Boston College

The men play BC today at noon at Cassell Coliseum. The game is on Regional Sports Network. This is the second game against BC this season. The Hokies lost at BC on Jan 25 56-61. The Hokies let thus one slip away at the end of the game after leading most of the game. BC is 11-12 and 5-7.

BC is still taller than the Hokies. Jairus Hamilton(#1) was 7-11 and 5-7 from three for 23 points in the last game. Tech needs to find a way to slow him down today. Jay Heath(#5) scored 15 on 5-11, 2-5.

WBB vs NC State

The Ladies play #7 NC State today at 7PM at Cassell Coliseum. The game is on ACCNx. NC State is 21-1 and 10-1 in the ACC. Their only loss was to UNC in Chapel Hill, when UNC was not playing well; which just goes to show any team in the ACC can beat any other team, especially on their home court. NC State has wins against current #13 Maryland and #17 FSU; both were home games for NC State.
