I suspect that, even if he is reinstated, and is healthy by opening night, Shai will likely be suspsended for the first couple games and will not be on the field. And the broadcast crew will be too busy sniffing Urban's jock and carrying on about the special teams greatness of Beamerball (despite the fact that it's been sadly missing for several years now) to even notice.
Furthermore, if it was indeed an honest mistake and Shai was led to believe that she was of age (not just that she looked older and he didn't bother to ask), then he deserves a second chance and giving it to him is the right thing to do regardless of what the talking heads have to say about it.
the people are more polite

as a single male, there is not a place in this world I'd rather be
*ahem* you clearly have not been to Asia or Eastern Europe.
Oops, thought he was referring to Gallow's Pole and Ramble On. Missed the Thank You reference. Old guys with slow minds like me shut just shut up and read.
Leg to you sir.

Maybe Shai was coerced and lied to
I'm no legal expert, but to me the 15 day / 50 hour sentence seems very light, which would suggest that Shai and his lawyer were able to convince the court that this is indeed the case. If Frank is convinced of this, I think Shai comes back, but on a very short leash. Even a 'non-crime' like a simple DIP would probably be enough to drop the hammer after accepting his return.
2004 - called my dad from school as a senior at VT; he was not a football guy, whatsoever. For that reason, I wasn't that big on it either yet. Told him that I wanted to go down to NO for the Sugar Bowl. He spent 40 years in the restaurant business, from Boston, and was pretty tough; not mean, but Boston Irish. They don't say much, but don't argue.
He picked up the phone, I gave him my weak pitch, and he responded "you have to go, once in a lifetime. I'll buy the ticket." Only time in my life my jaw "dropped."
He passed a few years back, and the reason I've gotten so into VT football over the years was because of that call, and that game. Kind of a gift from him to me in hindsight from a guy that never cared that much about 11v11.
Its pretty clear McKenzie deserves the second chance.
Is it though? I don't know... a DIP is a non-crime in my opinon. Stealing is a non-violent crime, but still a crime. Bar fights are no good, and DUIs are worse, but (to me personally) sexual crimes cross a line. All of the other acts I listed, I can attribute to a 'mistake', when you get into sexual crimes, it's a grey area at best.
Maybe Shai was coerced and lied to, but without knowing the all the details, I'm hesitant to support his return to the team. I'm trusting Frank on this one, but in a very hesitant manor. It just doesn't feel right to me, but I hope I'm wrong.
I long ago stopped reading Gregg Easterbrook but his always referencing the Redskins as the Potomac Drainage Basin Indigenous Persons was great.
Hope that's better. Sorry all!
Sorry, didn't mean to cause a problem. Trying to link from my phone, not sure it will work.

Ohio might have big deer but it doesn't have elk.
Edit: yeah I'm wrong. Elk have been seen in southern Ohio. Damn you Google.
I didn't know if maybe the rules had changed and those were grandfathered in
I agree the discipline should be more harsh here, but there seems to be justification opinion for it because it is the law. There is what he did, and then there is the law with regard to age of consent.
Let's just keep in mind that there is a fairly strong chance many on here, and potentially sons and daughters, have/will violate this law at some point. Someone under the age of 18 cannot consent, well there are a whole lot of high schoolers committing crimes everyday for violating this law, sometimes by months difference in age. There are freshman in college dating someone just about to turn 18, that may well be in long term relationships violating the law.
I think he should be more harshly punished by VT given (i) his age and (ii) her age, regardless of what a judge decides.
The list of NFL starting QB's that VT has played the last 15 years is impressive.
Nope. Kendall is our #1 corner because Fuller.
At least they were hitting someone. A few years ago (*cough* Newsome *cough*) our OL would look at each other as a dale just ran past them.
that 1% has only proved devastating because we've allowed the opponent to stay in the game far longer than they should have. I'm not typically a "it's always the offense's fault because they didn't score enough points" kind of guy, but when you have a defense like ours that consistently shuts down opponents, you don't need a crazy high powered offense to put the game out of reach. We can win with smothering defense and a decent offense. Not sure we'd win a title with it, but certainly our league.
I am looking forward to retiring to Ohio.....said nobody! Makes no difference enjoy Wayne!
Alright I'm sorry, but I could not really care less what the media wants to spew at us. If the powers that be have decided that he's getting his just punishment, I choose to accept that and let the young man continue to live his life. He made a mistake and is going to pay a price that, from what I can tell, everyone but football fans seems to accept.
Screw what the media decides to spin on gameday. We listen to those hacks too much as it is.
Carbs offend me.
did anyone tell the cardinals or the giants that?
I think that particular W word applies to polish people not Italians, but if we can tell it can't be that offensive

I agree with you, but I was just making an observation that his comments about never being on a more special team "ever" is kinda odd, considering that he only played one year in high school and this is his 4th or 5th college team. ( I can't remember, did he redshirt?). Most elite players at the same point in their careers as Dadi have probably been playing since they were 7 or 8, not 17. His sample size is small enough to make the use of "ever" seem a little ironic, especially considering the state of the VT football program in the last few years.
