Paperboy, Knowles, and Stanford (plus Cline and maybe Rogers) have a good chance to have good games. LT3 has to be able to hit short and intermediate patterns against this very good front 7. With the talent of the UCLA front 7, I'm not sure there is a lot of success to be had with play action. Combine Edmunds being out and our running game being just OK even with him in the game with the extra time needed with play action that the OL has to pass protect, and play action (which has been a huge part of passing success for Loeffler) might not be a great option.
Honestly, this is gonna be a grind it out game on both sides of the ball. If we get the LT3 that we had in his fantastic 3-4 game stretch midseason, then we have a great chance to win by using Knowles, Byrn, Stanford, and Cline (maybe even some Rogers) in the passing game. If we are waiting on the running game sans Trey Edmunds to setup play action against the UCLA front 7, it could be a long night (afternoon) for the offense.
So wait...you're telling me the bowl game comes down to the performance of Logan Thomas throwing the football? That'll be a refreshing change from all our other games this season...

# | Senior Writer for ESPN's RecruitingNation Jeremy Crabtree's take on VT Recruiting The next two years are going to be interesting because VT has been a good-not-great team for a decade and in the last two years have as many loses as the last 8 combined (approximately). VT can see it's hold on the 757 slipping a bit. If we don't return to (at minimum) Coastal dominance, then we can see some real struggles to stay on top.
The fact that Beamer has 1) made coaching changes to get younger 2) Still has the most wins in FBS 3) Has 22 consecutive winning seasons under his belt (Florida can't say that anymore)
The sky is not falling. Getting on the map was one thing, now its time to stay there. I trust this organization to do it.
Once this happens it shouldn't be a big deal. With the way things have been going its pretty smart to have a 6'6-6'8 guy move to a position he can grasp and excel at. Look at what happened to us before the season started. Malleck goes down and now we have to start a back then unheard of kid. But now he is know as Kalvin Cline the starting TE. It's not a bad idea to create depth within the squad. If he has been doing the drills and everything else why change him back to QB where we have great depth.
What does Kalvin Cline have to say about this? He was starting to get his footing last season.

Dont forget xavier burke as our te coming in this yr. he got some high praise at the rivals 5 star camps. And buckys move isnt official official but they said its pretty much going to happen. I tweeted bucky and asked if the 6'8 reports were true and he fav my tweet so i take that as a yes. But has been workn out at the te spot for weeks now. Thats where his reps are at and not so much at the qb position.
Still haven't heard confirmation about the move... Or about the 6'8" measurements...?

I think he is doing a great job of looking at all the pieces to the puzzle. I would like to hope there might be 10-20 pieces left until the puzzle is finished. I spoke with Bud Foster the other day and he said that he "might have taken a couple of those pieces and is waiting for him to visit that way they can finish the puzzle together."
I'm hoping once all completed the puzzle will look something like this:

If the Hodges move to TE is correct, and the decision by McCray to give up football, that will give us five TEs on the roster - Cline, Malleck, Redman, Hodges, and Jackson. Hopefully, Cline and Hodges will put on some good muscle-weight during the off-season.
Dakota Jackson is the real mystery man to me at this point - haven't heard anything about him, good or bad, since he arrived. Anybody know what's going on with this guy?
Additionally, 2014 TE Xavier Burke will be arriving next Fall, but he will probably redshirt.
I've met/know a few who were lifers, or pretty darn close, at St. Chris, and that is a pretty accurate description. If you either don't go to an Ivy League school or UNC/Duke/UVA/W&M/W&L, many will see you as inferior. I won't say that about all the kids there, because I know some good eggs who have a St. Chris degree (some of whom went to VT), but I think this assessment is accurate for a major portion of the students. The athletes generally only go there for two or three years.
I went to Benedictine, a military school, for all four years in HS- St. Chris was our big rival. Although I hated my time at BHS for the most part, reading this accurate bashing of St. Christopher's brings a smile and some good memories I have of HS along with beating their teams. Thank you.

# | Senior Writer for ESPN's RecruitingNation Jeremy Crabtree's take on VT Recruiting I think it's an point worth highlighting. We have not had this type of QB uncertainty since Vick bolted and left us with Noel, and even then, we only had Noel. Now, we've got like 5 QB's to choose from.
Of course, we've also got this new offensive staff and how they will come together. Not only are we waiting to see if they will come together, we've got to worry about them leaving more than we ever have before. One thing we didn't have to worry about with the last offensive regime: someone poaching them (hey, silver lining!).
And, finally, the big man will retire and we don't have a clear successor.
There is a significant amount of uncertainty.
Like I said sometime this past summer, he's always been an athlete playing quarterback, not really a true quarterback. This move makes the most sense for him and the team. Glad he's moving. If he can bulk up a bit, him and Klein together could be every defense's worst nightmare - mismatch city. And at 6'6 he could be a serious redzone target.

To say hings are going to be interesting is an understatement. One of the winningest programs of the last decade or so completely flipped it's offensive staff and is now pulling in recruits that are the absolute epitome of what we want.
ESPN stinks.
If this is true, I I'm gonna complain after every loss that our TE isn't playing at his natural position while giving him backhanded compliments about being a team player.
Significant lower body injuries are extremely detrimental to offensive linemen. Depending on your tolerance for pain, those injuries can really limit what you can do as far as weight-lifting is concerned. That has a major impact on how much of a push you can generate on running plays. Bad knees and ankles can also impact the lateral movement required when pass-blocking. As noted by another poster, Shuman, Benedict, and Wang have all had those kinds of injuries while playing for Tech. Having the mental "want to" is a big part of playing big-boy football, but the body has to be willing to make that happen.
Do I personally want to see the seniors get passed on the depth chart, or hang up the cleats? Absolutely not. But I also want to see the offensive line improve to the point where we're not sweating every time we have a 3rd-and-1 situation, or we have a first down inside the opponents' 5-yard-line.
The "old regime" left Tech's offensive line in shambles. Past misses in OL recruiting combined with a lack of hands-on coaching are the primary culprits. Grimes appears to be rectifying the recruiting part of that equation, and I believe he will also rectify the coaching part.
Competition is good, and Grimes is going to ensure that we have a very high level of competition at every position. May the best five OLs rise to the top, regardless of seniority.
