From this week's Deadspin College ShameDay:
"Virginia Tech needs to beat Virginia to become bowl eligible. Virginia needs to beat Virginia Tech because you can only get so far bragging about how many Vineyard Vines ties you own."

Sounds about right to me.

I have to disagree... I want the Music City Bowl. After this season, I think our fans deserve to go to a fun city that we haven't seen in a while. Charlotte is nice and all, but how fun would New Year's in Nashville be? Come on... you know you want to!

But uva invented Smug.

Might I add this is a proven fact from above: "They like to think of themselves as "Mr. Jefferson's School". Gag me. Jefferson was a redhead...a ginger if you will. Gingers have no souls, therefore UVA IS SOULLESS."

Wouldn't you? He'd have to be pretty out of it to not think that. With that being said I bet Stiney feels completely secure.

I don't think the ACC brass will realize they can just vote Boston College out and be back at 12 teams, the perfect number for a conference. These are the current schools rumored to replace Maryland.

Louisville is easily the best football fit, UConn makes the most sense if the most important criteria are basketball, academics, and location.

Rumor has it that Newsome expects to be fired at the end of this year. Still wondering if they axe Sherman and anybody else.

The main problem I have with adding more and more Big East teams is the argument that it'd be a step up kinda disappears when half our conference is former Big East teams. But I do think that Louisville and UConn are the most likely teams to be added just because they fit into the conference geographically. The ACC is pretty stuck if ND doesn't join full time because the Big East, Big 10 and SEC are the 3 conferences we would steal from. Doesn't look like anyone from the Big 10 or SEC would leave for us and the Big East blows.

I want Belk Bowl. No distractions from practice and any bowl this year is about getting ready to play Alabama next year.

And, God willing, any offensive changes will be made immediately following the UVA game, so the new coaches will be able to put in the first elements of their system during bowl preparation.

Goals for Bowl Practice:

1) Determine if Tariq Edwards can ever full recover from the lingering effects of the metal rod in his leg (he has not been discussed since the UNC game.) If not, identify next year's backer.

2) Identify who will be the 2013 starting offensive line. That grouping should get 60 of the snaps in practice, as a group, even if they do not play in the actual game.

3) Emphasis on seven on seven drills should be taking away the primary option on passing plays (improving LT3's ability to go through projections) and work on his presnap vision. Team on team should feature significant work on front recognition and sliding protections by LT3 and the center.

4) Wide receiver blocking, wide receiver blocking, wide receiver blocking.

Plus I really, really want some "Decade of Dominance" shirts next year...

The only reason I would want to see us in the SEC is for an all-cadet battle with A&M.

I also hate them to the point that I judge ALL people (even Hokies) who move to Charlottesville. Why would you want to live amongst them?! In the words of one of my first VT shirts when I was little, "UVa is the school for me...NOT!" Yes, it was the early 90s!

LOL at the thought of any team leaving the SEC (which has no exit fee) for the ACC (which has a $50 million exit fee) ... and decreasing football revenues by 3-fold??

never gonna happen .. wouldn't even waste the time to call

VT should go ahead and get the fuck outta dodge before everything that's been built over the last 20 years is gone.

That's the thing though. We don't HAVE to lower our standards just to be part of the conference. We can keep our same rules and policies with regards to academics in place so that we won't stoop to that level, while at the same time being able to recruit better talent just because of the conference we're in. The same goes with running a clean program. We can still run a (relatively) clean program compared to other SEC schools and still be a member of the conference.

On the note of us hating the SEC. The only reason why we love to hate on them is because they're the self-proclaimed and media-proclaimed "BEST OF THE BEST" in football and they play a tough, inspired game. I still am a firm believer that the move would be good for the school and the program.

Doesn't concern me too much one way or another, but for Hokies wanting the Fridge as OC, does this dim our chances because Ralph won't have the opportunity to rub it in the terps face? Does it make it more appealing because he wouldn't coach against MD? Just curious.

Also, what are everyone's thoughts on how Louisville might fit in ACC-land? Don't know too much about them academically, but good basketball background (I remember playing them at Cassell when we were Metro conference foes)...football is decent...ACC would be a step up from the Big East....and the trip would be a lot more pleasant than having to hump it up the east coast for every ACC team not named Boston College.
