Love the replay of that INT in the last two seconds to win by a Touch. On a different angle, a coach on the UVA sideline tries to trip the DB as he runs by. Dirty Hoos... Try to cheat and still lose.

1. A conversation last Thursday between my 16 y.o. son and I during the UVA-UNC game:
Son:Why do they(UNC) have a foot on their helmets?
Me: They're the Tar-heels....see the dark spot on the heel?
Son: Tar-heel? Where did that come from? I thought they had an animal of some sort for a mascot?
Me: Well, they kinda do...it's a goat..ram actually...don't know where the tar-heel thing came from.
Son: A goat??
Me: Hey, it's better than some lame guy that falls off a horse!
Son: (laughter)

2. I live in the midst of these people...they are insufferable snobs...overheard several conversations between wahoo fans regarding how they'd love to deny us a bowl game, but that they are afraid the hoos will "freeze up" or choke when they play us like they always do. Like they were really better than us, but just didn't play to their potential....when they generally have played above their heads...it's just that they are really, really, bad.

3. Their fans (and I use the word loosely) are nonsensical. I personally observed the following behavior at the Miami game, a game which they (unbelievably) won. A game against one of the better teams in their side of the conference. They arrive in the middle of the first quarter. A good many of the fans are in coats/ties (about 3% are bow ties), or dresses/heels. This is observed in both alumni and students. A mid-second quarter scan of the stadium indicates that the stands are at about 65-70% capacity....for a conference game(???!!). Mid-third quarter....about 10% of the crowd leaves. Many of the people exiting are told about the no re-entry policy, and many of those leaving state that "That's ok, if I want to come back in, I have more tickets, I'll just use one". One wonders how much that behavior inflates their gate numbers. So the crowds are likely smaller than the actual reported numbers. Fourth quarter, as the hoos are still in the game...MORE people leave. By the time the hoos score the game winning TD with 0:06 on the clock, there are roughly 30,000 people there to witness it. The stadium is half full. Astoundingly lame fans.

4. The graphics on this post are wonderful! I especially like the graph of the London era at hoo-ville.

5. Just a reminder of a post here from last year after the uva game (38-0, bro): http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2012/january/17/reminder-uva-counting-...

6. The Commonwealth Cup has been in the possession of the Hokies for 3279 wonderful days.

After experiencing SEC football here at South Carolina, I can't say it's my favorite. I think I like the idea of the SEC more than anything. Because I certainly don't like the people...

I do think that the ACC is not the place we need to be if we want to make another NC run. The SEC is the logical move to put us in position for a NC run in the future. The SEC makes sense geographically, financially, and with respect to the conference TV market. I also think the ACC is turning into the Big East... Well, what the Big East used to be. Which I don't like. I don't want to be in that position again, in the football bottom-feeder's conference.

On the other hand, do we really want to be a part of the SEC? I mean, we all hate them and hate how much ESPN loves them. We all hate how they play ball (that is definitely not how VT plays. We prefer being blue collar and Frank has always run a clean program, which is so not SEC. We would be the SEC's black sheep.). There's also the fact that SEC academics are not the greatest.

Why should we lower our academic and athletic standards to the low that is the SEC?

I see both sides to the #VT4SEC argument. It all just depends on what we want more... To be a football school or to be a well-rounded university, with respectable academics and athletics.

This morning I was all on the #VT4SEC bandwagon and I think I just talked myself out of it.

I just made myself look like an idiot!

My Uncle used to end every Thanksgiving Grace with "and thanks for Al Groh," a tradition that unfortunately ended a few years ago. After 38-0 last year, if Mike London proceeds to lose to the worst Tech team in over a decade, I think we'll have a new tradition to start.

I wouldn't be surprised if no one comes in right away as Swofford tries to talk ND into full membership...by the way is there a worse name for divisions than Legends and Leaders?

I think the long term investment for Maryland will be greater then the short term loss of the exit fees.

Not only will they make more monies in the future with the sweet TV deals, but they also will get to join the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) which gives Billions a year to the conference schools in research funding (which makes tv contracts and bowl monies look like chump change). Research funding is a variable that everyone overlooks. This is why i believe Tech hasnt bolted for the SEC. The CIC funding is significantly more then what the ACC's consortium gives, to my knowledge (and the ACCs gets WAY more then what the SECs consortium gives). No brainer for Maryland.

I think UConn is a favorite, but Georgetown shouldn't be overlooked. I also have been thinking about Vanderbilt. I know it sounds crazy, why would any school ever want to leave the SEC for the ACC. But think about it, they're a great academic school, one of the best, and the SEC is one of the worst conferences for academics. I don't think it would be crazy for Swofford to at least give them a call.

Yea since its at home we probably will... Yay for showing up 6 games a year!

With that shit-tastic showing at BC this game screams disappointment. Fortunately it's at home so there's a better chance we show up.

So with UMD out, it looks like we are aiming at UConn, or do you think Swofford has some magic planned?

True. But if we can't get anywhere close to where we were in 1999 (when we were led by Michael Vick, by no means a "no-name recruit") by staying in the ACC and not being able to win big games in Out of Conference play, then I think we should make the move for VT4SEC and start being able to recruit more top talent. Granted, it would take us a little longer to climb the ladder to the championship, but I believe it would be the right move in the long run.

List of preferences:

1. CFA - can we even be chosen for that? How far can GT fall? Not even available if CU loses to USC.

2. Sun

3. Music City -- Lots of good memories, SEC team, close enough.

4. Orlando bowl of suck.

5. Charlotte bowl of dog poop.

6. Home for holidays with a loss to uva to contemplate.

As much as I would love for us to get the SEC recruits and be able to win titles, i do not agree for us to move to the sec, I personally hate the sec and the way they go about winning, they overrecruit and play kinda dirty, not to mention the obnoxious fanbase they have. If we ever do win the title i want us to win it without flashy recurits and not getting it handed to us. Case in point, espn moved bama up to number 2 just so they are back in the title race. Espn's world is not right unless the sec is in the big game. I want us to win it with no name recruits and playing lunch pail defense.

Is actually an Ohio State Alum, but yes, only minor details..

I love our colors, I love our uniforms, although there have been some questionable calls regarding helemts and unis over the last few years. I just want to see us come out in our old maroon on maroon just once! That is our best uniform and always will be in my opinon. I say all around, including unis and coaching and players, need to get back to the old school way of VT football. Get back to hard nose running the ball and setting up the pass, does anyone remeber the worlds stingiest defense? I sure do, and we need to get back to it and beamer needs to make changes in the special teams, we have fallen off bigtime.

i REALLY don't want to play a big east team either. i'm hoping for the sun bowl vs Pac-12 or the music city bowl vs the SEC. Nashville would be amazing.... but it might just be a little to low on the picking order :(

We as the Hokie Nation, would we accept Les Miles as the next head coach at Tech? Or do we just wait and see if they hire bud or shane?
