2019 NBA Draft Thread

With the NBA Draft Thursday we will finally see where NAW will be drafted. Big opportunity to give our program a share of the spotlight, which he already is doing by wearing maroon and orange in his interviews. Here's an awesome article from the Ringer that mentions NAW as one of 5 players in this draft class who will not fail.

Besides NAW getting drafted, this draft gives us crazy potential trades, especially with rumors of the Pelicans wanting to pair RJ and Zion together. Things could get crazy tomorrow!

Wofford big man Keve Aluma will transfer to VT.

Aluma averaged 6.9 points and 6.8 rebounds this past season but he was widely regarded as Wofford's best defensive player. Likely a sit one, play two situation. Big pickup.

Taylor Emery signed as Undrafted Free Agent by Minnesota Lynx

Regan Magarity got drafted by the Connecticut Sun, while teammate Taylor Emery was left to wonder where she would end up after going undrafted. She didn't have to wait long, receiving four offers to sign as an undrafted free agent to come to training camp to compete for a roster spot. She chose to sign with the Minnesota Lynx and will report next month to their training camp.

Kerry Blackshear Weighing Options via Transfer Portal or NBA Draft

I know it was posted in the other thread, but I think he's a big enough name for the program to deserve his own thread.

He can still come back, so he isn't completely gone, but this isn't the best news for Tech, even if expected.

Justin Robinson to work out for the Celtics

I hadn't really heard much buzz chatter about Robinson and the NBA draft...but according to this guy, he's one of the top PGs in the draft. Looks like Med is playing in the same invite only tournament (64 seniors are selected)

Jumping from Mid Major conference to a Major Conference

Looking at VT's transition from a Mid-Major basketball team to becoming a member of a Major conference had me wondering about how other teams handled this. Since VT jumped to the Big East in the fall of 2000, 10 other schools have made the jump. Two of those schools jumped ship for football (USF and Cincy were in the BE from 2005-2012, but now are back as mid majors). Three of the schools joined the BE in 2013 (Creighton, Butler, Xavier). I left those 5 schools because well these graphs suck to make and not great amounts of post jump data. That leaves Marquette, TCU, Utah, UofL, and Depaul.

Here are the winning percentages over those years:
