Boston College QB Phil Jurkovec undergoes hand surgery, could miss rest of season
Just saw this on ESPN.
That's a huge blow to their team.
Because we're all Sunday morning quarterbacks.
Just saw this on ESPN.
That's a huge blow to their team.
In the first quarter of last weekend's game, an MTSU defender (#1) put a nasty hit on BB3 at the end of a run. Targeting was called on the field, but the call was overturned by the replay official. There was a brief debate in the gameday thread where I said that I didn't think it was targeting based on my real-time view of the play. Now that I've re-watched the clip, I came back to admit that I was wrong, but then I re-read the NCAA rule on targeting, and now I'm more confused than ever.
The hit in question took place at the 4:47 mark of the first quarter:
A crushing blow: Justin Fuente announces TE James Mitchell will miss the rest of the season after an MRI revealed damage to his right knee that will require surgery. Mitchell, the #Hokies' most versatile offensive weapon, got hurt on a goal-line carry against Middle Tennessee.โ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) September 13, 2021

Did I miss something in the off season or is there a reason why the jumbotron is showing a very small fraction of the replays that it's shown since I can remember? We got maybe a half dozen for both the UNC & MTSU games and none of the ones where controversial flags were thrown. It seems like they just want to do shots of the fans which is great...but after the replay is done.

Doing some follow-up writing today and didn't realize just how much of a breath of fresh air Tayvion Robinson's 59-yard punt return was for that unit. The #Hokies had 66 punt return yards *all of last year.*โ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) September 12, 2021
This is absolutely bonkers to me. Continuing to see significant improvement in the return game will be a boon for this team moving forward, as punt returns were clearly a black hole last year.
Neal Brown willingly took a job at WVU.
While a full comparison of the first two years of the Hamilton led Hokie Defense isn't the easiest thing in the world to make, there are certainly more than a few items of note that should give fans of Virginia Tech some optimism.
Through the first two games of 2020, the new DC's group was certainly not the defense VT fans were accustomed to: 27.5 ppg allowed, 139 rushing ypg allowed, 264 passing ypg allowed, 2 turnovers caused, a tenacious 6.5 sacks per game, but only 3 more TFL per game (indicating a lack of push into the backfield on rushes and screen passes)
Does 2021 show any improvement?
Why, yes. Yes, it does.
VT is still the only team with an ACC win AND we also have an OOC win.

Because someone had to open it up
So full disclosure, I was only able to find one ~3 minute highlight tape from Conference USA on Youtube about this team's game with FCS Monmouth. I figured I would at least offer some names to watch and the few tidbits I was able to draw from a very small sample size. Feel free to share anything you might know about MTSU as well.

Folks, those of you in the Northern Virginia area, please pass this along. Ganesh Chandrabatla is the missing man. Had lots of relatives who attended VT. He is a former co-worker of mine missing for about a week.
Hey all - hoping some TKP wisdom can help me here....Havent been able to find a good answer on the interwebs so here's hoping...
Whats going to be my best bet for watching/listening to the game on Saturday?

Dear Hokie Nation,
Our department has been diligent about reviewing areas for improvement from Friday night's victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels in conjunction with all of the staff responsible for making Lane Stadium come to life. On any given night, operating Lane Stadium requires over 1,000 people. We appreciate their work and their commitment to continuous improvement.
So going to the VT/WVU game in a couple weeks and wanted to hear some feedback to those who have attended a VT game in Morgantown before. This would be my first VT game there and a little hesitent of how loud/excited I should cheer based on the stories in the stadium I have heard in the past. Not trying to get spit on/jumped lol.
Also looking for recomendations (if any) where to go to drink/tailgate/eat/etc. Probably a day trip since it's relatively close to me (NoVA), but might stay over night depending on time of game.
