I started the day by reading Brian's excellent post "Scared Money" this morning. He started that post by reminiscing on the change that Dabo made to Clemson and how it affected us as well. This one quote stood out to me.
Over the next 10 years Virginia Tech would never reach the highs that they did in 2011. It was the beginning of the end. An extinction-level event was coming, we just couldn't see it yet.
College football is at it's best when regionally relevant games carry enough emotion to garner national interest. When two teams fight for shelf space at an interstate rest stop, you know that they hate each other, and you can feel that hate seeping through the television when they play. This is what college football is all about.
I became a Hokie in 2008, so I never really experienced the WVU rivalry. But this game makes too much sense to NOT have on the schedule. We should play WVU every year. It sucked losing yesterday, but I was more emotionally invested in beating WVU than I am most ACC teams. I don't hate WVU, but I want to. The more we play them, the more I can hate them.
I thought BB3 played a gutsy and serviceable game. He took a beating and kept asking for more. His early conservative downfield approach was maddening to watch, especially given he threw some darts down the field in the second half. With better play calling in the red zone he's celebrated for a comeback road win against a rival.
The defense was sketchy and unreliable in the opening half, but they clamped down in the second. Credit to J-Ham and his crew for turning it around.
Well, Joe asked me to start a new thread, so I will gladly oblige ๐
At the end of the day, we all know the debacle at the end of last year. We all know that, if Fuente wasn't already destined to be fired with that press conference, he was damn well close to it and absolutely needed to knock it out of the park this season.
Today was about as far from knocking it out of the park as it gets. 12 plays inside the 5 yard line. 0 points. Game on the line first and goal, and the only play that was run into the end zone was a throw out of bounds. Offensively, we are a goddamn train wreck, and it's only getting worse with every year that passes.

I don't feel like scrolling thru all the comments in a "Fire Fuente" thread from a year ago so here's a new thread for everyone to complain.
I'll start:
It's hard to have a successful offense when we never throw the ball down field unless we're left with no other choice and also we run options but our QB never keeps the ball. Three games in, wins and a loss now, its a trend in all of them
BTAN would be full speed until the Notre Dame Game, but thought I'd throw out a few graphs ahead of WVU for thought/discussion...
By the way, you'll notice some formatting changes and while the full set of graphs is still in progress I'm interested in any feedback the TKP community has!
14. Villanova (2-0): Huge matchup this week vs. Richmond. The Wildcats will need some magic from QB Daniel Smith, who is off to a great start to the season.
15. Richmond (2-0): The Spiders run defense will be put to the test against the Wildcats. Could be a huge game for DT Kobie Turner.
We have a big weekend with WVU, but I will also be keeping and eye on this match-up as well.
It's been a great two weeks to begin our 2021 season. Earn a Top 10 win at home against a hated divisional opponent? Check. Cover the spread against a middling group of 5 team? Check.
Tyrod talked with Pat McAfee yesterday and put a nice bet on the line for the game this weekend. I do like Pat's take on the game after the interview is over.

My first truly lasting memory as a Hokie was watching Mike Vick and the Miracle in Morgantown in 1999. My brother was home from school (Thanksgiving, I think), the game was on CBS (yes! Big East football on CBS!). Sean McDonogh was calling the game, and has since called many a VT game, including Tyrod's Nebraska drive. All us brothers, even my little brother who was barely 6, were in our living room watching the game.
In an ideal world, we start our season 4-0. But every long term Hokie fan knows these things are not a given. That may be even more true for the newer fans amongst us.
So, if we aren't going 4-0, who would you rather lose to? WVU or Richmond?
I'm taking the head scratcher of Richmond. I know the WVU loss probably doesn't look as bad on paper, I just don't want to stomach that one. At the same time, losing to Richmond is fodder for ridicule.
