For all my analytics nerds out there, our season is over, so I thought it would be interesting to compare our post season standing against our preseason projections.
A quick definition for those unfamiliar:
In a single sentence, it's a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency. [Bill Connelly] created the system at Football Outsiders in 2008, and as [his] experience with both college football and its stats has grown, [he has] made quite a few tweaks to the system.
Now that the season is officially over, it's time to take a look back at what went well, what didn't go well, and where we think we can make the biggest strides of improvement going into the Spring practices.
Personally, I liked what I saw defensively the majority of this year. I think our biggest problem there is depth. We get a competent 2 deep that doesn't tire out late in games and I think we'll have some solid foundation to work with next year.
Offensively, we need a ton of work. For a variety of reasons on and off the field that probably will be a few years in the making to resolve.
I have been hearing from a number of sources that the game is going to be postponed to Dec 3rd.
From everyone I've talked to last night and this morning, moving the #UVA-#Hokies football game to Dec. 3 is a very real possibility.โ Mike Barber (@RTD_MikeBarber) November 21, 2022
Multiple people are claiming that their mobile tickets already reflect the date change.
The vibe has been too rough to subject myself to watching the post games pressers the last few weeks, but in light of a dub over the Fightin' Falwells and things somewhat coming together for the good guys(game management, OL play, penalties etc) I thought this would be a good way to keep riding this high.
A lot of this has been touched on in the FAM thread, but here's a consolidated list of insights into the sideline from Pry after the game:
We have MACtion almost all week. Scott Loeffer is taking Bowling Green Bowling. Tonight we have snowbowl on ESPNU between Western and Central Michigan.
This interview Doug Gottlieb did with former #Hokies coach Justin Fuente was good.Talks about mistakes he made at VT (staffing, recruiting, media). Thought Tech had better team than record indicated final few years. Is happy for Hendon Hooker's success. https://t.co/3SxOuOw88Tโ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) November 16, 2022
About to listen on my drive this afternoon. Thought I'd share for everyone's thoughts.

I was curious if any of the teams that previously employed our coaches, well... uh, actually missed them. Got bored, did some light research. One can certainly go deeper. Data mostly from here: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/
Unfortunately, that's the rallying cry for the rest of this season.
We have Liberty next week. I honestly don't care if we win or lose.
Unleash all of the freshmen. Hold Malachi so he can play against UVa and be able to redshirt.
Ideally, Pry should treat Liberty like a spring game. Treat them with the disrespect they deserve by not even trying to play our best guys 100% of the snaps.
Game isn't over, but we got blown out by Duke, so it's not worth waiting. The sad part is, there's very little about this team to look at right now and think that things will be better next year. In fact, it very much seems like we are on a one way mission to a winless 2023 season.
This is really dumb. The NCAA is way behind the times for yet another thing. There were no conflicts of interest, Tisdale is an adult, and sports betting is legal in Virginia.
