My day has shifted from hoping he stays this morning, mainly for the potential in the next 2 years, and for the sake of all the assistants that were just fucking hired...

To thinking, "well, if he does come back, this will be awkward"

To now thinking: "Get the fuck outta here"

Fun fact: I have never once said Beamer should have left before he did. I didn't see any whining, just making a factual statement, our downturn happened long before Fuente.

I mentioned in the other thread, given how late in the process this all is, if Fuente walks; talk to Bud.

I know he's got his heart issues, so approach him with the offer to be the interim head coach through the 2020 season. That will allow whatever staff Fuente leaves here to stay together, would probably keep a lot of the players from transfering, and would give Whit ample time to find a more permanent replacement.

I'm not defending it, just pointing out that we're gonna be the bad guy to another school, their fans are going to have the same feelings toward our potential future coach.

Frankly, I blame the god damn Carolina Panthers.

If this all goes down how are you gonna feel about our next coach, who will leave their current team at an even later time in the offseason, putting their team in an even harder spot than Fuente leaving VT in mid January?

As has been mentioned, given his heart health, I don't think this is a viable long term option...however, with the shitty timing of this if Fuente walks, maybe he is brought in for next year, just to keep things together, giving us time to do a thorough search moving forward...if he would be agreeable to that.

If his heart can handle it long term, I'd be all for giving it to him.

My personal thoughts are I hope he stays. When he came in, he had the choice as to whether to keep Bud or not, but had he let Bud go, he would have lost the fanbase from Day 1. It feels like 2020 is the first time it's truly 100% his team from a staff standpoint.

I realize it's a job, and aside from being here for the past 4 years, he has no real ties to Blacksburg or VT, and the fact that Baylor can more than we can; but I feel like between having just completed his staff (which leaving now would put a lot of guys lives in an uncertain place, some of which just days ago left their previous job to come to VT), knowing what he has returning on the field in 2020, and seeing what he has been building for 2021...if he leaves at this point, then Fuente is not the type of person I thought him to be. Maybe I'm naive.
