Based on the already tumultuous offseason and expectations leftover from 2019, what are your minimum expectations for Fuenteball in 2020? For me, I see 8 wins as an absolute minimum, but I won't be satisfied unless we get 9. PSU, L'ville and UNC should be the toughest.
Some news before the weekend: #Hokies WR Damon Hazelton has put his name in the transfer portal, @TheAthleticCFB has learned. He's in there as a grad transfer. Has a team-high 1,329 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns the last two seasons.— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) January 17, 2020
Wow. Surprising for a running back. Wonder what his eval from the NFL was, compared to say a Dalton Keene?
I will begin this by saying I don't think this scenario really played out, but I wanted to share what has crossed my mind as a possibility ...
What if Baylor's very public courtship of Fuente was planned and calculated by both Whit and Fuente to make light of our fundraising inefficiencies and communicate to fans the urgent need of more donations to compete with the best in college football?
Baylor talk starts at about 23:50, but then goes off topic for a bit. Fuente/VT/Whit talk starts at ~34:15, and ends around 36:30.
Paraphrasing/transcribing Godfrey's comments as best as I could:
He will be coaching Team Makai against Steve Spurrier. The game airs Saturday the 18th at midnight eastern time on CBSSN.
I had some time to burn last night so I watched Brenden Hill's recent twitter post. I can't say I've agreed with all of his VT takes or all of his football takes but this video nails the concept of my thoughts this week. As a fan base we have a lot of different opinions, some don't like who steering the ship, some don't like the OC play calls, etc. In the grand scheme of being a fan we all want the same thing and I think we get caught up arguing over small stuff and being toxic for having a varying opinion.
It's nearly 20 minutes long but its worth every minute.
In light of all the frustrations we have as fans and how much information we get from Fuente, I think they need to hire a PR manager for Fuente. Wait for it - I think it should be DCWilson.
Not sarcastic (in case you guys were thinking that) - this just makes a lot of sense to me from a mad scientist/evil genius perspective. Or maybe I just need more sleep.
Also - DCWilson - I can't tell you how many times I've looked at your comment about the V-shaped room and projector lumens and just freaking laughed out loud. That may be the reason you're my #1 choice!
With all of the drama that's been circling the Virginia Tech football program over the past couple of days, I wouldn't be surprised if many of us (myself included) haven't noticed that the Hokies' own Mike Burnop was named the 2019 Virginia sportscaster of the year. My family moved to Blacksburg in 2001 when I was 14 years old, and I was lucky enough to become friends with the children of some Hokie legends. From my parents' home, I could just about throw a football and hit Beamer's, Burnop's and Hite's front door.
Great twitter activity by Andy Bitter today.
A lot of un needed hate being spewed at our head coach without any factual evidence. We are better than that guys. I'm thrilled he's staying. We are building something here.
Ultimately, I want the program to be great, both for my joy and for the benefit of Southwest Virginia as a whole. I believe the events of the last 72 hours have damaged the chances of the program enjoying sustainable success.
Fuente didn't have the cache to do this without damaging lots of relationships. The administration looks bad because of their lack of investment in football. The players trust was shaken. VT looks like second tier because the story is "Baylor had more resources, but he stayed."

I'm interested in this thread exploring the topic not of the cost of fuente leaving, but the cost, fallout, and collateral damage from him staying.
I think this could be a useful perspective thread.
References and tweets welcome.
Is it time for thread 2?
And call it a day. I for one am tired of people who aren't willing to fully invest and see something through.
I bet Shane and a bunch of other hokies (JHam et Al) would.
To be honest that story and narrative would get me way more excited, sentimental, and ready to go than all this crap.
David Teel nails it.
Whether or not Fuente lands at Baylor, this has been and will remain painfully awkward for many parties.
For example, if Fuente stays with the Hokies, how badly will this dalliance fray his credibility with players, staff, fans and his bosses, namely athletic director Whit Babcock and university president Tim Sands?
If he goes to Baylor, what of the assistant coaches he just hired, Darryl Tapp, Tracy Claeys, Bill Teerlinck and Smith? What of the recruits who signed with Virginia Tech last month?
Since our athletic department is seemingly in financial dire straits, let's come up with some options to raise money. I know these threads have been started periodically, but given the current situation and that apparently some folks in the AD scan message boards, it's time to put up.
Charge for the Spring Game. Other schools do this. It's not a deal breaker for anyone committed to traveling to Blacksburg, either. Let people know where the money is going and it will make it a lighter lift. $10 for adults, $5 for kids, $20 to park in Lots 1 and 2.
Conservatively:20k @ $10, 5k @ $5, 2500 @ $20 = $275k
