Let me be Frank

book

For Christmas this year Santa was generous enough to give me Frank Beamer's latest book "Let me be Frank". I finished reading the book last night and now I have a few things I want to say. This book gives a unique perspective and wanted to finish it before posting on here.

Recruiting, who else can we get?

I'm extremely excited about this past weekends recruiting scores. Settle is a big time commit, obviously, and Lawson is big time as well. With that, who else is on Tech's list? Who else do they have a shot at (realistically)?

Jeff Driskel allowed release from Florida

The first thing that came to mind when seeing this was I could see Lefty jumping on Driskel to transfer to VT. I know we have a lot of potential at the QB position but we have seen Lefty is not shy about bringing in more talent. To add, Driskel was interested in VT when he was being recruited...

(EDIT: I may have editorialized that last part of the headline, just a little. I have no information on Bud Foster's intentions.)

OT: Minnesota's Governor Wants to Ban Early Kickoffs

Article (From the Washington Post)

Multiple news outlets are reporting that Minnesota's governor is looking at legislative options to ban early kickoffs for Minnesota Golden Gophers home games after they had four 11 am CST kickoffs this season. Governor Dayton is also gauging the interest of other governors in Big 10 school states to do the same.

Someone ought to get Governor McAuliffe on board with this.

Braxton Miller to FSU?

Just sitting here watching TCU thrash Ole Miss and the ESPN scroll just said Braxton has expressed interest in transferring to FSU. But also it said Urban Meyer expects him to return to OSU.

This could get interesting.

OT: Targeting Rule Explained

I know that I'm about to open a can of worms here, but @LegacyZebraCFB just did an Explain like I'm 5 (ELI5) post on Reddit concerning the targeting rule. He makes a lot of interesting points that clear up how targeting is enforced in the NCAA.

First, there are 2 types of targeting:
1. Leading with the crown of the helmet:

Big Recruiting Weekend

Tim Settle expected to announce Friday night at UA All-American Game (4 PM)

Lawrence Cager expected to announce Saturday at US Army All American Game (1 PM)

Dwayne Lawson expected to announce Sunday at Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl (9 PM)

BTW, how many high school players can claim that they are an "All-American"? Seems like the moniker has lost its luster with so many high school games.

Future Football Schedules

Now that the season is over, it finished on high notes with wins over UVa and Cincy in the bowl game, and all rumors of Bud's allegiance to Blacksburg have been quashed, let's look forward. We have approximately nine months before we'll see Brewer and Co. suit up against the Buckeyes, so there's plenty of time to kill. The Hokies have some big-time out of conference games coming up in the next few years (OSU, Tenn @ Bristol, more B1G schools). Take a look at the future schedules from HokieSports and discuss which OoC matchups you're looking forward to (or not looking forward to **cough** ECU **cough**).

What to do at Running Back in 2015

Picture this. You're Shane Beamer. You have a total of 9 capable backs on your roster, and that doesn't even include Sam Rogers, who will get his share of carries as well. You have a decision to make similar to that of 2010 when the likes of David Wilson, Ryan Williams, and Darren Evans were all in the same backfield. Who do you start? Who gets the most carries? Does anyone redshirt? The options are endless. Choose between:

Marshawn Williams
JC Coleman
Shai McKenzie
Trey Edmunds
Joel Caleb
Jerome Wright
Deshawn McClease
DJ Reid
Travon McMillian
